Welcome back!
This weather is certainly hot, and no matter whether you love the heat, or hate it, it’s here! So, we thought we’d talk about some self-care tips you can implement into your routine during the summer.
Keeping Cool & Hydrated
The slightly boring, yet incredibly important stuff! Keep hydrated, when the weather is hot you should be drinking around 2-3 litres of water per day (that’s around 8-12 cups). If you struggle remembering to drink, you can set alarms on your phone or habit-stack! For example, each time you reply to a message, you have a glass of water.
Staying cool can be incredibly difficult and with houses built to retain heat, even more so! Freeze some water bottles, keep a fan on, seek shade. Cold showers & baths can be very refreshing. Make sure to check in with yourself regularly to avoid heat stroke!
Mindful Mini-Walks
It can be difficult to get out in the hot weather, and when it’s 30+ degrees outside, sometimes we simply don’t want to! Try to reschedule your walks for cooler times in the day like the morning or the evening, or simply shorten them. Walking around the block, or even around your garden, is still walking! If you’re struggling to get out at all, that’s okay, the weather will cool down eventually, but try to ‘exchange’ your walk for another self-care activity.
Journaling
Summer is often depicted as a care-free season, and sometimes it feels like that too! But the stress of being off work, caring for children, planning holidays and events can take a huge toll and often eats up our energy. Taking just 10 minutes to journal can help to relieve them stresses and clear your mind. Journaling could be guided, like our mindful insert, or you can free-write in any notebook. Whatever works for you!
Get out in nature
When the weather cools, or if you’re prepared to face the heat! Being in nature is scientifically proven to reduce stress levels. Nature can mean your garden, a park, a beach, anywhere you feel like is most peaceful and accessible to you. Observing nature can be incredibly calming. There is so much you can do in nature, reading a book, writing in your journal, take photos, have a picnic. But always remember to leave no trace!
Try a new hobby
Take advantage of the longer days! Trying something new releases dopamine in our brain, which improves our mood and stimulates our brain. It helps with personal development and increases confidence. You don’t have to be perfect, or get it ‘right’ first time, just try, the effects on our body and mind are still the same! Some fun things you could try this summer are colouring, yoga, gardening, cycling, painting, photography. If you do try anything new this summer, tell us about it!
We hope everyone has a lovely summer and remembers to take care of themselves during it. Ignore expectations of always having to be ‘doing’, your summer is YOURS to enjoy however that looks for you.
Until next time,
Take care of yourselves x
